Highlights from Grant Philpott

leave a comment

All of us here at ditto would like to extend a massive thank you to everyone who attended the December Campfire, and particularly to our guest speaker for the night, Grant Philpott.

Artist, musician, tv producer and BAFTA winner, Grant has worked on everything from The Big Breakfast to Harry Hill’s TV Burp. As part of sharing his singular creative journey, Grant gave the audience an exclusive look behind the scenes at the making of TV Burp, available here with highlights from his talk. The evening delivered an inspiring look at how skill and perseverance pay dividends, along with a great insight into how a production team can work at a high speed to create a show that’s won four BAFTA’s and counting.

And lets not forget the party afterwards, which went late into the night; for those who left a little bit of themselves on the dance floor, thank you for making our first ditto Christmas at The Lighthouse one to remember. You know who you are!

World-renowned pioneering DJ Greg Wilson is our next Campfire guest, and will be taking us through his story on the 20th January. As the first dance music resident at the Hacienda, and one of DJ magazine’s top 20 remixers of all time, expect an entertaining evening with Greg. We will also be opening our new gallery, where we will be hosting a ditto retrospective of the amazing work produced for ditto by a huge array of artists, musicians, cinematographers, animators, photographers and many more, since 2009. So put the 20th in your diary for what will undoubtedly be a spectacular start to the New Year.

On April 15th we welcomed Julianne Pierce, Executive Producer at Blast Theory, into The Lighthouse as she talked about the Brighton-based team’s exploration of a new landscape of multimedia. Immersing audiences in experiential artworks, Blast Theory have blazed a trail around the world. Julianne shared her part in that journey with us, and we have some highlights for you below.

Introducing… Blast Theory

Blast Theory is renowned internationally as one of the most adventurous artists’ groups using interactive media, creating groundbreaking new forms of performance and interactive art that mixes audiences across the internet, live performance and digital broadcasting. Led by Matt Adams, Ju Row Farr and Nick Tandavanitj, the group’s work explores interactivity and the social and political aspects of technology.

At April’s Campfire session we’ll be joined by Julianne Pierce, Executive Producer, who has worked with Blast Theory since 2007 when she relocated from Australia. Julianne is a curator, writer and producer specialising in digital and media arts. From 2000 to 2005 she was Executive Director of ANAT (Australian Network for Art and Technology), and is a founding member of the influential computer artist group VNS Matrix, who exhibited widely in Australia and internationally from 1991 – 1997.

Blast Theory confronts a media saturated world in which popular culture rules, using video, computers, performance, installation, mobile and online technologies to ask questions about the ideologies present in the information that envelops us. Join us for a very special night, as we explore their work at the bleeding edge of innovative gaming.
